A wedding gift for someone changing their last name
A card with your words, and inside it their complete name-change plan. $39, nothing to ship.
Inside is Name & Next, their complete personalized name-change plan from My New Surname: what applies, what comes first, what can wait, and where to go. It waits until they’re ready.
Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington. Not theirs yet? We say so before you pay.
Their name. Your words. The plan waits inside.
Why it works as a gift
It doesn’t have to be the biggest gift in the room. It just has to say, I was thinking about what comes next, too.
Give it on its own, or beside the check or registry gift you were already giving.
A gift card asks them to decide what to do with it. Name Day already did the thinking. You make it personal, and they use the plan when they’re ready.
What they see first
What they open
They see who thought of them before they see anything else. Opening the gift never starts the plan.
What’s inside
Not a folder of guides. Their plan works out what applies, what comes first, what can happen at the same time, what can wait, and where the official source lives.
Every piece of a name change is public somewhere. The work is knowing which pieces apply, which order matters, what can happen at the same time, and which source controls. That is what My New Surname organizes.
20 states covered today, each checked against the issuing agency’s own page. Sources last checked September 2026. Not theirs yet? Purchasing will stop before payment.

The part you give
You create the moment. They own every answer that shapes the plan. You never need their future last name, Social Security number, passport details, bank information, or documents.

Something to put in their hands
Print the 5×7 at home or at a local print shop, then tuck it into the wedding card or shower gift you were already giving. The front stays personal. The back quietly holds the private link.
Why we built it
When we got married, I assumed most of a name change would happen on its own. It didn’t. Even getting the marriage certificate was a process we had to learn. Then came Social Security, IDs, the passport, a New York license, insurance, shared financial records, work records, and the small places where a mismatched name becomes a problem months later.
It isn’t hard. It’s a long, scattered project of small things, and nothing lines them up for you.
Tiffanie is the planner in our family. I’m the researcher and builder. Even between the two of us, it was more fragmented than it needed to be. My New Surname is what we wish we’d had then.
Name Day came from a second thought: what if someone who loves you could give you that head start?

Put Name Day on your registry and let a guest give it, with their words on the card. Your future last name and everything private stay yours.
Questions
The thoughtful part is knowing this fits a decision they’ve already made. Everything private stays theirs.
Not when you know they plan to change their last name. You only need their first name. Name Day never asks you for their future last name or private details.
Ask. Name Day supports a decision they’ve already made; it never makes it for them.
A card addressed to them with your words, opened from a private link or handed over in print, and inside it Name & Next: their complete personalized name-change plan from My New Surname, built from their own answers. Nothing ships, and there’s nothing for them to pay.
The information is public somewhere. The work is knowing what applies, what comes first, what can wait, what changes when their situation changes, and which official source controls. That’s the part the gift hands over.
No. It organizes the project: what applies, in what order, with the official page beside each step. Forms and agencies change. Their full intake answers and progress stay in their browser; we retain limited gift, purchase, delivery, and access data needed to provide the service.
No. Opening the envelope does not claim it. They can start after the honeymoon, months later, or whenever the name change becomes the next thing they want to tackle.
We cover 20 states today and add states as verified requirements and real demand allow. If you know their state, we check it before payment and do not open checkout when it is unsupported. If you do not know, the recipient gives their current state when they start; if it is unsupported before we can provide a usable plan, we close the entitlement and issue a full purchaser refund after payment reconciliation.
No. Their complete plan is included. A name change is a one-time project, not a subscription, and there’s no upgrade behind the gift.
Yes. They answer their own questions on their own device. You never see their answers or their plan.
Yes. See how Name Day works on a wedding registry. You create a listing, and a guest adds their words and buys it for you.
