Washington’s driver license and vehicle records have separate name change steps. Updating your license does not finish the vehicle paperwork. The vehicle route includes an Owner Name Update Affidavit, with signatures certified at a vehicle licensing office or notarized.
Your plan keeps the documents to gather and official form links beside your vehicle update. If your vehicle has a loan or lien, DOL says to arrange the name change through the lienholder.

Does an enhanced license change how I prepare?
Yes. DOL’s enhanced driver license instructions say to update Social Security first and allow up to five business days for SSA to notify DOL. That is a notification interval, not a promise about the whole Social Security process. The enhanced license instructions and standard license instructions are separate. Check the requirements for your actual card before planning the appointment.
Where can I get a certificate soon after the wedding?
For a recent Washington marriage, the county auditor that issued your license can provide a county certified copy while the Department of Health waits for its record. DOH says that can take up to five months. County and state copies are not interchangeable for every purpose, so check what the receiving agency accepts before ordering.
