Privacy, in plain language
You can use My New Surname without creating an account.
Your questionnaire answers, plan, and progress stay in this browser. Some actions you choose, like leaving an email or making a purchase, send limited information to the service needed to complete that action.
The short version
- No account is required.
- Your answers, plan, and progress stay in this browser.
- We don't ask for your Social Security number, document numbers, account numbers, or actual surname.
- You can delete My New Surname data stored in this browser whenever you want.
When information leaves your browser
If you give us your email
We send your email and the information needed for that request to the service that handles it. That can include the request type, where the request came from, the time, and a selected state or fixed coverage reason when relevant.
Limited website analytics
We use Plausible to count visits to approved public pages and six journey actions: starting a plan, generating a preview, reaching an eligible plan checkout, starting a gift, reviewing a gift, and reaching gift checkout. These counts help us understand which pages and channels are useful. Detailed product-use diagnostics stay in your browser. Checkout counts do not confirm a purchase.
We do not send questionnaire answers, selected states, names, emails, notes, plan guide or institution details, private links or codes, or payment identifiers to Plausible. We do not record form contents, downloads, outbound destinations, or private-page time and scrolling. Checkout activity is not proof of a purchase.
Plausible receives the network information needed to process a request, including your IP address and browser user agent. It uses these to estimate daily visitors and broad location and device information, without storing raw IP addresses or using cookies or persistent cross-site identifiers. Aggregate reports include when visits and events occurred. See Plausible’s data policy. Deleting local app data does not delete aggregate reports already received.
If you make a purchase
Stripe handles your payment details. Payment features such as Link may be offered by Stripe during checkout.
My New Surname keeps the limited payment information needed to confirm your access, handle refunds or disputes, and help restore purchase access if you need it later. We do not store your card details.
If you give or receive a Name Day
Name Day stores the card’s first name, giver signature, personal message, envelope choice, selected state, and the payment and private-link records needed to deliver and manage the gift. A registry listing also stores the recipient’s delivery email and an unlisted guest link. Guests can see the addressed first name and state, but not that delivery email. The giver never receives the recipient’s questionnaire answers, plan, or progress.
The receipt and Gift Center link use the buyer email confirmed by Stripe. Registry cards, requested recipient links, and requested printable PDFs are sent through Resend. When you request a link email, the address you type is held only in the private delivery queue while that request is prepared, sent, or reconciled; it is removed after a confirmed send or terminal failure. It is not added to a profile, gift record, marketing list, or local export. A requested PDF goes only to the buyer’s payment email; its prepared attachment is retained for a safe retry and removed when the delivery reaches a confirmed or terminal result.
Private gift links and codes grant access to their intended gift actions. Keep your Gift Center link to yourself and send only the recipient link or printed card to the recipient. Name Day analytics use bounded journey events, never private links, registry identifiers, names, email addresses, messages, or questionnaire answers.
If you switch devices
Your questionnaire answers and progress do not automatically move with you.
If you purchased the complete plan, support can verify your receipt and restore paid access on another browser. Your original answers and progress cannot be recreated.
What stays in this browser
Depending on how you use My New Surname, this browser may hold:
- your questionnaire answers
- your generated plan
- your step progress
- your local purchase-access state
- limited product-use history
- checkout references needed to confirm a purchase
- referral information, if you arrived through one
- Name Day card drafts, private gift links, purchase references, and a registry-kit link
These stay local unless you take an action described above that sends specific information elsewhere.
Purchase records
To confirm purchases and handle refunds, disputes, or recovery, My New Surname keeps a limited payment record tied to the transaction.
The plan-access entitlement record does not contain your questionnaire answers, plan content, card details, email, name, address, or actual surname. Name Day’s separate purchase and delivery records contain the gift and buyer-email information described above.
Delete My New Surname data from this browser
This removes My New Surname answers, progress, purchase-access information, and other local app data stored in this browser.
It cannot recall information already sent elsewhere, such as an email submission, an analytics event, payment information held by Stripe, or server-side Name Day gift, registry, and delivery records. For questions about those records, contact support below.
