How to change your name after marriage in California
Your state’s instructions
The California Department of Motor Vehicles states that when you apply for a new license or ID card in your new name, the first thing it does is verify your information with the Social Security Administration, and that an application whose information does not match will be denied. It does not state a waiting period.
Passport, vehicle, and voter records follow their own current instructions rather than one universal order.
