How to change your name after marriage in New Jersey
Your state’s instructions
The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission states on its REAL ID guidance that REAL ID requires the name on your Social Security account to be changed to match prior to license or ID renewal. It does not state a waiting period.
Passport, vehicle, and voter records follow their own current instructions rather than one universal order.
State-specific caution
The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission driver manual says a motorist who legally changes their name must report the change to MVC within two weeks.
