How to change your name after marriage in New York
Your state’s instructions
For the Standard-document by-mail route, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles states your Social Security record must already show the new name and that the name requested must exactly match your Social Security card. Its in-person route lists different documents. Confirm which route applies to you on the DMV’s own page.
